What Is This Warhammer Names Generator?
The Warhammer Fantasy Name Generator creates original character names for the grim dark world of Warhammer Fantasy — names for Empire soldiers, Dwarfen warriors, High Elves, Wood Elves, Skaven, and Chaos warriors, each carrying the distinctive cultural flavour of the Old World.
Every name is original. The generator draws on the naming conventions established across decades of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay supplements and army books — Germanic names for the Empire, Norse names for Norsca, Norse-Dwarvish for Dwarfen clans, Welsh-Elvish for the Asur, and deliberately unpleasant sounds for Chaos and Skaven.

How Warhammer Are Named
Warhammer Fantasy naming follows faction geography: Empire uses Germanic names — Karl, Ludwig, Dietrich, Hildegard, Wilhelm. Bretonnia uses French medieval names — Bertrand, Isabeau, Lancelot. Dwarfen names are Norse-Germanic with clan honorifics — Thorek, Gotrek, Snorri, Morgrim. High Elves (Asur) use Welsh-Elvish — Teclis, Tyrion, Alarielle. Wood Elves use nature-compound names — Drycha, Orion. Skaven repeat syllables — Queek, Skreek, Thanquol. Chaos Warriors use harsh invented names — Archaon, Sigvald, Valkia.

History & Background
Warhammer Fantasy Battle was created by Games Workshop and first published in 1983, designed by Rick Priestley. The universe expanded through decades of army books, the Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay game (WFRP, first published 1986 by Games Workshop, later by Hogshead, Fantasy Flight Games, and Cubicle 7), and an enormous range of novels through the Black Library imprint. The setting drew deliberately on real-world history and mythology — the Empire is Holy Roman Empire Germany, Bretonnia is medieval France, the Norse are Vikings, Dwarfen culture is Northern European dwarven mythology through a grittier lens. Warhammer Fantasy was discontinued as a mass-battle game in 2015 with the End Times storyline, replaced by Age of Sigmar, but lives on in WFRP, the Total War: Warhammer video game series (2016–), and continued fan dedication.

Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of names does this Warhammer Name Generator create?
The generator creates original character names for Warhammer Fantasy — Empire soldiers and wizards, Bretonnian knights, Dwarf warriors and runesmiths, High and Wood Elves, Skaven, Chaos Warriors, and Dark Elves — each using faction-appropriate naming conventions.
What is the difference between Warhammer Fantasy and Age of Sigmar naming?
Warhammer Fantasy (the Old World) uses grounded historical analogues — Germanic, Norse, French, Welsh. Age of Sigmar introduced more fantastical names (Stormcast Eternals have heroic epithets like 'Vandus Hammerhand'), while the Mortal Realms use more diverse naming conventions. This generator focuses on Fantasy and Old World conventions.
How do Dwarf clan names work in Warhammer?
Dwarf names consist of a given name and often a byname earned through deeds or appearance (Gotrek Gurnisson, where Gurnisson is his ancestral name). Slayers give up their clan name in shame and take a deed name (Gotrek = the Trollslayer, Felix = his chronicler). Rune Lords and Thanes carry elaborate ancestral names listing their holds.
Can I use generated names for Warhammer RPG or fan fiction?
Yes. Generated names are original, so you are free to use them for Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay campaigns, fan fiction, and hobbyist play.
